Nail Notes: Floppy Minty Glitter French

So, I skipped the whole Easter thing, which is kind of unbelievable considering I have been waiting all winter to break out my pastel goodness.  But instead of bunnies and eggs, I went for a little more "bold" pastel look.

I'm not sure what to call these diagonal tips, but floppy French sounds about right to me.  I used

Maxi Maxi

Nothing could welcome spring better than the perfect Maxi dress!  I want to start my own collection of them, it seems, as I can't seem to stop trying them on....but, not all of them are a win -- so make sure you find the right fit for you.  You can find great prices at Forever 21 and Old Navy.  They also offer some great solid colored Maxi dresses that you can then dress up with a great belt or a fabulous STATEMENT necklace!  And some really bold prints that are statements in and of themselves.  Here are my top four picks -- 2 solid and 2 print -- all at reasonable prices!

Check out some of these great pieces you can get now!

Birchbox win: Miss Jessie's Original Quick Curls Review

March is only my second month on Birchbox, and after my first box was kind of disappointing, I thought I might just cancel, as I barely used anything out of it.  But I'm happy I didn't, because this month was bangin, and the sample sizes were pretty big. One of my favs from this month was Jessie's Original Quick Curl Cream.

Originally formulated by two sisters who had an African-American father and Japanese mother and who went on to start their own salon, this stuff is legit - even for those of us who don't have "ethnic" hair. If you have a bit of thickness and curl in your hair already, I think it'll work for you - I can't imagine thin hair or pin straight peeps are going to get a lot out of it. I have the blessing and curse of hair that makes no sense - it's kind of straight but not really, and kind of curly but not really, but also it's short - so usually things are pretty normal looking until you get around my ears, where my hair goes every which way but down.  Random chunks point straight up to the sky like demented hair-sunflowers, other chunks twist around in awkward backwards curls, and other chunks, seeing that friends on the other side of my head are pointing up, sweep themselves in just to be contrary.  ANYWAY it's madness and no matter what look I'm going for, it always takes work to get all my hair on the same page. I didn't imagine this product could cut my morning hair negotiation time in half, but it totally did.

I was anxious about using this cream on my shorter hair, but

Sensitive Skin? Check out Bare Escentuals

I have incredibly sensitive skin. Actually, I have something called "contact dermatitis," which is a fancy way of saying I'm allergic to certain chemicals and other substances which are found in everything from makeup to sunscreen, shampoo to perfume, and if they make contact with my skin, I'll break out in a horrible rash.

For years I was at a loss as to what to do about makeup, when everything was so loaded down with chemicals I had no hope of finding something that didn't contain at least one of my allergens.

Then I found Bare Escentuals. Their goal is to create makeup that's light-weight and easy on your skin, not loaded down with chemicals that can be damaging to it. Check out what they say about their mission:

Make a Statement!

I love statement necklaces (in fact I blogged about personal statement necklaces way back when!)-- those "look at me!" pieces can take any ordinary outfit and make it out of this world.  Recently I went to a flea market and found all of these funky bright colored plastic necklaces.  Individually, the pieces looked kind of drab, but when I put them all together, they made this amazing, eclectic statement -- perfect for a tropical vacation.  Another great layering idea is to go to your local thrift store and buy up all the vintage pearl necklaces you can and just wear them all together to create your own statement piece.

Nail Notes: 80's Drag

Since my recent life has been taken over by RuPaul's Drag Race, and nail time is tv time, my recent mani was subliminally led into drag queen territory. I may be a bio-lady, but I have nothing but envy for the drop dead gorgeous ladies on this show. UGH you are amazing.

Anyway,

Fab 5: Mickie’s picks on shoes, purses, jewelry, undies and brand!

Shoes: Slouch boots

I have a love affair with boots. They are my absolute favorite kind of shoe. And a pair of flat slouchy boots is the perfect staple for any wardrobe. You can wear them with jeans, shorts, or a cute summer dress. They’re incredible versatile, and a great option if you value comfort as much as fashion.

Fab 5: Eddie's Picks on Shoes, Purses, Jewelry, Undies and Brand!

SHOES:

I too do love boots like the other girls of Shiso, especially soft brown leather boots, but I also enjoy a cute comfy flat during the warmer months. One of my favorite pairs of flats is my red knotted Rocket Dog flats.

As you can see they are a little warn away from so much ware. They are perfect for working in an office – easy to take off as well (I can never seem to keep my shoes on when I’m sitting at a desk all day). Their bright color is great for sprucing up any dark outfit, especially when worn with dark jeans.
